Showhouse Tease

I was delighted to be invited to an evening preview of the Atlanta 2013 Inspiration House located on the grounds of the Cathedral St. Philip. This show house features designs by Rick Bonner, Karen Ferguson, Bill Ingram, Bryan Kirkland and many more local talents including my friends Sherry Hart (www.sherryhartdesigns.com) and Lori May (www.lorimayinteriors.com). For the schedule of events at the house, go to: cathedralantiques.org

We were encouraged to take pictures and blog about it but no full room views as it will be featured in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles magazine. The rooms were transformed beautifully. I had been invited to submit a design plan to design a room, but with the pending birth of our grandchild and other design commitments, this year was not in the cards, perhaps next year? The home was painted all white with absolutely nothing of interest, the designers really showed their talent as the home truly is lovely.

(I'm blogging from my iPad, as my laptop is at the doctor's and it's inadequate at best, I cannot place the pictures and give a description).

I'll give you some notes ahead of the pictures! The first picture is of a drop dead gorgeous leather antique settee, oh my goodness, I would love to have strapped it to the roof of my car! :). In another room with pretty pink decor, I loved the contemporary art piece the designer said he had commissioned for the room. The kitchen is a very small L-shaped room and the designer had beautiful rustic cabinetry installed as well as in-laid stone concrete floors, and neutral walls. Turquoise and black caught my eye in the next room with a beautiful iron table and glass top. That could surly come home with me too! I loved the contemporary design, my mind doesn't think that way, but I really liked it. I was happy to meet architect Bill Ingram whose work I have followed for quite some time. He and and his design partner had a beautiful warm space. Those of you that know me know there is no such thing as too many mirrors, and his was spectacular! Sherry and Lori had a warm space as well. The ceiling (which I didn't get a picture of) was covered in a beautifully stained wood that blended with the natural hues of the stone walls on one side and dark painted walls on the other. The small gallery of pictures contrasts nicely with the painted walls. Their creativity shone through with the vignettes they created. The dining room had a skirted table with the most gorgeous fabric against one wall, and lovely china and monogrammed napkins set a beautiful table.

I ran into several designers I know and got busy talking and failed to go upstairs. I definitely will go back to take it all in again. I want to encourage you to make plans to go see this lovely home, you will take away a little something from each room.

Project Monday

Usually my Project Monday's are home decor projects but today I thought I would show you another project I just finished. I have been doing a fair amount of knitting, mainly baby hats but my son wanted a 'slouchy' hat. I have to say I think it turned out well and know he is going to enjoy it the remainder of the winter! (Posting on iPad and cannot place my pix). The pink hat is a baby hat I did a while back for a sweet little friend of mine. Just heard my grandson needs a warm hat so I've got to get busy!

Project Monday

Ugghhh..it's Monday...again!

I usually greet the week with a workout and then home to clean house (yes, I do my own) and spend time in my office.  Sometimes I have finishing touches on projects started over the weekend.

It's Market time in Atlanta and I spent Thursday and Friday going to some of my favorite spots and finding new ones to gain inspiration and enjoy looking at all the beautiful furniture and furnishings.

Amy Howard at Home

I adore Amy Howard and had the good fortune of meeting her on Friday. She's a cute southern girl with unimaginable talent!

Her 28 years of experience manufacturing high end furniture and developing beautiful, authentic finishes for Amy Howard Collection recently launched a DIY finish product line giving us the ability to create beautiful looks on a budget and the ability to (in her words) 'enjoy the bragging rights'.
She demonstrated the basics of her techniques, just enough to get your heart racing!

Amy has several different 'kits' for finishes including;
One-Step Paint.
Spray on water based furniture stripper.
How wonderful...no more fumes!

Zinc antiquing enables one to give metal the look of aged zinc. Applied to custom cut sheet metal.
Look here for a demo!
Antiquing Mirror
Amazing...she has step by step instructions on how to take a regular mirror and by using her products produce an
 antique looking mirror.
Well, you know me,
I cannot wait to get some of her products and get busy.
All of her products are natural so no need to wear gloves.

The possibilities are endless.
I don't remember (and I didn't take note) what Amy said about how many thousands of pieces of beautiful hardwood furniture, made in America, that are in the landfills today.  Amy's mantra is 'Rescue, Restore, Redecorate'.
I have many pieces of solid mahogany from my grandmother that are just not my taste.  BUT with a bit of time and work, they can be turned into something timeless.

It's Good to be Green

Who says Emerald is THE color?

Annually Pantone declares a particular color
"Color of the Year".

Twice a year the company hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations' color standards groups.
After two days of presentations and debate, they choose a color for the following year.  For example; the color for summer 2013 was chosen in London in the spring of 2012. (wiki)
'Emerald' is THE hue but there are so many beautiful greens out there.

How about adding some turquoise and other polished green stones in this beautiful cuff?

I'm not a 'trendy' decorator or 'dresser', but I could 'toss' a pillow or two.

In just the right space this wallpaper would be gorg.
What do you think...
...would you paint your walls green?
Love the harlequin floors in Yves St. Laurent's home.
The wallpaper framed in the moulding is beautiful.
I see what I gravitate towards.
Somehow to me, painted plastar walls are a wee bit
more appealing than painted wallboard.
Definitely.
D
Laquer.
Distressed.
Old world plastered and washed walls...beautiful.
 Eclectic mix...love the screen.
Those of you that know me know I love me some tufting!
I can see this blond zooming down the road in this!

So tell me...what do you think?

Foodie Friday

Soup's On!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas spent with family and friends and are off to a great new year!

I thought since it's cold in most places across the US I would offer some yummy hearty soups.
Deen Brothers Chicken and Dumplings

Nothing better on a cold day.

 French Onion Soup
Tomato Basil and Cheddar Soup

Spicy Vegetarian Tortilla Soup

White Chicken Chili

source
Mozzarella Basil Puff Pastry Twists

These twists will be good with most of the soups!

If your tulips haven't popped up yet, you can find them at the grocery store.
Don't forget to bring in something 'live' from the garden.
