Project Monday

I am checking things off my 'to do' list around here at 'Casa de Moore'.
This big box came in the mail!
Yoo hoo, Mr. MD (Mr.handyman) where are you?

I had been eyeing this lantern for quite some time and had looked around at others and on a whim pressed the 'put in your cart' button!
It was time to replace the chandy that was here when we purchased our home.
Looks good don't you think?
I will say it was a booger to get up ...I was the handyman's assistant and at one time was holding it above my head. Oy.

Next...
In my ongoing attempt to not have my living room look like "Grannies are Us" with the furniture I inherited from my grandma, I've wanted to paint this table for quite sometime.
Since I had it on hand, I used Annie Sloan's white chalk paint to prime over the varnish. Being the careful attention to detail blogger that I am, I failed to take a picture when I was putting the color on.
In this picture it looks black, but it's actually a deep purple.
I did it purple to compliment the little lumbars I had made for the Victorian chairs.
Still working on the styling,
it's not 'just right' yet.
How do you like my pouf?
(Would sooo love to replace the carpet with wood).

Gotta check the list for what's next! :)

Foodie Friday

My absence is a case of bloggy block and life that gets in the way of me finding my way to the computer to dream up something interesting!

TGIFriday and it's time to eat!
I hate to tell you this, BUT, I am a salmon snob (won't eat any that is not pacific wild caught).  Spending 8 years in Alaska, MR. MD always kept the freezer full of the best Kings and Silvers.
Don't you just love edemame?  Don't know what it is?  They are soybeans and cooked just right are so yummy.
I am particularly fond of cherry tomatoes and anything with basil. The flavors compliment the salmon well too.
These potatoes are so easy and will finish off the dinner quite nicely.

We can't forget dessert!
Pinterest
These single servings of apple pie in a glass are festive and delish!
Don't forget to bring some life to you table...how about some live branches?

Black and White and a Bloggy Award

My friend Debra over at 5th and State is one heck of a shopper!  She travels the globe finding interesting pieces to fill her stores and has an superb eye for 'stuff'!!  Go here to visit the Sentimental Garden.
She gave me a present! And with this I am supposed to tell you things about me and pass to others.
What is it about black and white decor?
I am a 'steel cut' oatmeal girl...everyday!
J'adore Louis XV furniture...
have a few pieces of my own.
I am a simple girl...don't have drawers of make-up. All I own fits in a travel bag.
Honest...to a fault.
can there be?
Friendship -
a two way street
like music reality shows...
...not a sitter,
nothing gets done that way right?
a red wine girl
intolerant
did I say that?
transparent
what you see is what you get
generous
I've been know to give the earrings right off my ears
I want this office!
Do you like black and white?

Go here if you want more tidbits!

Tradition with a Twist and LR Update

I am a traditional girl, I can't help it, it's the way my brain thinks.  My sister is excellent at modern. We make a good team!
Darryl Carter
I love this English barley twist gate-leg table.  Darryl Carter takes these pieces steeped in tradition and brings them current with the white upholstery, painted floors and modern artwork.

This beautiful 4 poster European bed and bench are flanked by modern side tables.
Under Spanish Moss
Mr. MD has a desk like this, just need to get him a lucite chair.  Not sure he would go for it, but I like it!
Houzz
My grandparent's business had this type of chest in many places, solid mahogany of course.  I love how many creative ways I have seen them painted with updated hardware.
Rue
I adore tufting and this chair is paired with a modern silver table.  Another painted chest in the background.
Darryl Carter
I was excited when I saw this Darryl Carter design featured in Elle Decor.  This is certainly not 'grannies are us', Duncan Phyfe mixed with modern cubes.

My own living room has been a work in progress for quite some time.
I started by painting the ceiling slate gray and the walls a creamy white.
See here for sofa reno.

Bringing in color...
...and art.
Amanda Talley art here
I found this bench at the Screendoor in Ashville, NC.  Looking for a fun fabric to jazz it up a bit.

Next in line will be a carpet change, lacquer the marble top table and frame the Amanda Talley.
