Project Monday

I found this little table a few years back at the Historic Roswell Antique Market and knew I would do 'something' with it, as I'm not much for splatter finishes.
I like the lines of it and it's sturdiness.
Ever since I got acquainted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, I love using it as a primer and base coat.  Here I used white as the base.  I then used 'rub 'n buff' gold to add some accents. I 'wing' it as I  never know exactly what I am going to do next!
Next I made a wash out of black latex I had but it made it a bit more gray than I wanted.  I always have 'raw umber' craft paint in my stash so I diluted it with some water and brushed over and it gave it sort of a grainy finish which I like.
Here's a close-up of the top.
All in all, pretty good! I did this for 'My Own One-Room Challenge'.

For those of you locals, Historic Roswell Antique Market is a fun place to go, I don't think I have ever left without something in my arms!

Foodie Friday

This looks so good and is of the healthy fare..my fave!
Lentil-Barley Burgers with Fiery Fruit Salad
Recipe from Cooking Light

Last night I went to a 'Girls' Night Out' and made a
pesto cheesecake, definitely not of healthy fare but yummy all the same.
I meant to take a pix, find the recipe here and make it next time you go somewhere, it's always a hit!

It's feeling like a Sitka (AK) day around here; drizzly, windy, overcast and very chilly.  I'm trying not to say I wish it was warmer, because I know what is around the corner and then I'll be complaining that I'm tired of sweating!

Happy weekend wherever you are!

My Own One Room Challenge

I told you a few weeks ago that several blogger/designers were doing a ORC and I decided to do my own along side of them. That way I could get my rear in gear to finish up a bed and bath that I had started in the basement and get to another bed and bath that have been torn up for a while, both in my own home.

Before - bedroom 1 in the basement

Who could forget the main water-line cover-ups eyesore?

After
paint - SW Crushed Ice
fabric covered frame to cover water line holes
custom pillows
West Elm - headboard, duvet, sheets and curtains
Artwork done by my eldest son his senior year in high school.
Mirror - Ballards
lavender - love the fragrance

Bath in basement - before
go here for more
After
paint- SW Oyster White
custom painted shelf
mirror- HomeGoods
new fixture

Now -  to what needed the whole challenge to get myself off my duff.
Bath - before
go here to see all the details!
paint - SW Oyster White
new fixture
custom framed the mirror and painted
painted the vanity
I love a small lamp in all my baths, this one is reminiscent of my 'cello playing days.
Since this bath is quite small, I kept the shower curtain neutral to not make it seem smaller.
So blessed to have Grandma's furniture with beautiful wood carvings, just needed a bit of an update.
I had an ikat pillow for inspiration initially but changed my mind.  Imagine that?
I changed it several times before I finally landed on what would be.
I tried putting the bed on the wall between the windows but ultimately put it back against the back wall.  One dresser removed from the room to open the space.
paint - SW Crushed Ice
matlesse - Garnet Hill
euros - Pottery Barn
pillows - custom (still waiting on one)
curtains - custom
lamps - HomeGoods
My budget on this room got a wee bit out of hand as we had to replace the box-spring and mattress.  There was quite a 'dip' in the old set.
Painted table, will feature on Project Monday
next week.
Attached mirror removed, this one found at World Market.
Ultimate goal is to have a piece of granite or silestone cut for the top of this dresser which one day be used in a powder bath.

I am glad these two projects are finished, next will be my office. :)

Back in the Saddle!

Cycling Season Begins!
Tonight is 'Ladies Night' at Atlanta Cycling Vinings
It's time to get my Ruby down (with the pink handlebars), dust her off, pump her up and saddle up! It's been 2 months since she's been off the wall and only ridden a handful of times since October.  I adore my cycling friends and enjoy getting out and challenging myself...I'm the 'oldie moldy'!  I'm hoping my working out at the Gin Miller Fitness Studio over the winter has kept me in fighting shape.  Remember 'step-aerobics?"  Gin was the creator all those many years ago and I am so blessed to have her as my (group) trainer now!  She has shown me that us old girls can still be strong!

Are you a road bike cyclist or want to learn?  Come on out and join us at 6pm for a 'no-drop' ride with a bunch of fun girls!

Foodie Friday

OH * MY* GOSH*

is all I can say about these Cinnamon Roll Pulls.

My own *One-Room Challenge* got pushed off the radar this past week after spending 3 days over in Birmingham, AL helping my son move, clean and do some decorating. And then hostessing a small get-together for one of my dear friends moving away. A girl just cannot be in all places at all times!

Oh but I digress...back to the decadent pulls which I made for the little party.

1 unsliced round loaf sourdough bread
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 cup sugar
1 1/4 tsp cinnamon

1 cup powdered sugar
1-2 Tbsp milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

To make Vanilla Honey Butter: Whip butter and 1/4 cup powdered sugar together until smooth; stir in honey and vanilla.  Set aside. (You can use regular butter if desired)

Cut the bread lengthwise into 1/2" slices, without cutting through the bottom crust. Spread vanilla honey butter in between slices.  Rotate the bread 90 degrees and slice the bread again into 1/2" pieces, without cutting through the bottom crust. Spread more vanilla honey butter in between new cuts. This doesn't need to be perfect - just make sure there is lots of butter in between all the cuts. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Generously sprinkle in between all cuts. (You may have extra butter and cinnamon sugar.  It will just depend on how large your bread loaf is.)

Wrap in foil; place on a baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until bread is warm.  Unwrap cinnamon bread and place on serving platter.  Combine powdered sugar and milk - adding milk until you get the consistency desired.  Drizzle icing over bread and serve immediately.

My version!  Yum!

I'm telling you, these are my new fave cinnamon gooey goodness and will certainly be brought out for special occasions, otherwise, I will have to ride more miles and work harder at the Gin Miller Fitness Studio.

The weekend is looking gorgeous here in the south, I hope signs of spring are coming your way too!

Foodie Friday

The MR and I found the grilled artichokes at Houston's to be so yummy, so we thought we would try them ourselves. Find the recipe here, http://www.food.com/recipe/houstons-grilled-artichokes-with-remoulade-385268. The only difference between ours and Houston's was the remoulade sauce didn't taste quite the same.

Enjoy! Happy weekend.

Been moving our son from one apt to another in Birmingham, AL. Today is the fun part for me, doing a bit of decorating...on a super tight budget.
