Chairs Chairs Chairs

Intrigue

Arouse the curiosity of interest of; fascinate.

That is exactly how I feel about chairs. I can't explain why.
I like looking at the different era's in which they come from, some good, some not so much. Some all wood, some with upholstery, some with both, some with neither.

Do you think they are comfortable?  Which do you like?  Would you have the guts to go out of your comfort zone for something quirky?
Go here to my Pinterest page for these and others and their sources.

Teasing

I have enjoyed every minute of a one year old and her mom in my house for the past week. My arms have been full with lots of loves and laughter! I have managed, however, to get the chairs almost finished. Just need owner's approval on color before waxing. Tell me what you think. :) On my way to WA to see my son and DIL to do some decorating before 'little man Moore' arrives. Oh is my heart ever full and so grateful to Him who blesses me.

Project Monday

A couple of weeks ago when I did the kitchen chairs,  I told you the dining room chairs would be next, so here they are.  I am fortunate to have my grandmother's Duncan Phyfe, original circa 1940-ish table and 8 chairs and have had them for 16 years now.  Of course, over the years they have had many changes.

This fabric has been on for 5 years or so, definitely in need of an updating.

The seats unscrew easily and I gave all the wood a good cleaning, where did all that dust come from anyway?

This is the fabric that was on the chairs when I got them from my grandmother, I have kept it under all the many changes that I have done just as a reminder of her, whom we called "Punkin" a nickname my grandfather gave her when they were courting.

Here is the fabric I have chose for this 'season' of the chairs' life!

I decided where I would try to position the fabric on all of the chairs, keeping one paisley in the center.

They came out pretty nice, don't you think?

Fabric's here

Fabric arrived today for my kitchen chairs....yippee!

Now, my conundrum is; do I upholster horizontally or vertically?

I'm thinking horizontally....weigh in.

HALO Designs

One of my very favorite showrooms to visit is Halo Styles, formerly G J Styles...
every time I visit Atlanta's Mart, I make a bee line to get to the 11th floor!

Theirs are mainly old English reproductions with a smattering of French and Swedish.

Barley twist or gate-leg....I adore.

I am fairly certain two of these chairs will be coming to my house.

Or maybe two of these.....hmmm, decisions.

Do you have a place for one of the Swedish clocks?

This is a fabulous sofa...about 8' long, and next year slip covers will be available in different fabrics.

This chair is a recliner and is most certainly making it's way to my house! DH wants a "kick back" chair as he calls it and I am not fond of them. This will certainly do!

It is very comfortable...

Trunks, trunks everywhere...these are some beauties...

Of course you know I love anything silver, just wish I had a place for these!

Halo is "to the trade" only, if there is anything that tickles your fancy, let me know and I will order for you .
Just send me an email!

Settee Mania!

I am crazy for settees...it seems no matter where I am I gravitate towards them in many different styles and fabrications.  Whether your style is traditional, contemporary, European or anything in between, you are sure to find one that will fit in perfectly!

One of my favorite blogaeratti, Valorie, who is the Visual Vamp's has this lovely in her home in New Orleans. The overall style, the nailheads, the pillows...hey Valorie, are you in Uptown or the Garden District?

Gustavian period sofa, Circa 1800...

...Swedish sofa Circa 1920.

These two lovelies come from Brooke at Velvet and Linen's
Swedish Antique store in Los Angeles, CA, visit her website here. If my decor only leant itself to these I would have them!  But you know how it is when over the years you have acquired things, it is not easy to "start over"!

This is my own...

I think the carved wood on this is just beautiful.  The nailheads add great detail. It is delicate and I like that.

What do you think about this angled leather settee? It is elm wood with original leather in Albertina style. It actually  comes from a noble house in the Bologna-Parma area of Italy, Circa 1830.

This is vintage bamboo....I can see some bright fun fabric....perhaps my new favorite color....apple green!

Now where would you put these Arts and Crafts Settees?
These are neo-Egyptian style from England, Cica 1910.  I really like these, they are a bit edgy and fun!

This is a "to die for" French Napolean III black painted settee with gilt and polychrome and inlaid mother of pearl.  Gorgeous.

How about this folding daybed?

I have never seen anything like this, have you? Have I been hiding under a rock somewhere?
This is cool...my hubby would just love it.  Our basement pool room is "his" trophy room with hides and antlers from his hunts and this would be fab there!  PETA don't come after me. :>)
A Victorian Horn Settee.

This would be so much fun out on the deck for an outdoor living space.  Love the wheels and that there is lighting for reading!

What do you think?  Do you have jsut the right place for any of these?

unless noted, all images from 1st Dibs.

Chairs! Chairs! Chairs!

I do love chairs and I seem to gravitate to unusual chairs. I was perusing the 1stDibs Saturday sale which is always so much fun and found pages and pages of chairs.
This is called the Turner Chair....odd shape, I wonder how comfy it woud be? I could see a plush triangular cushion....how about you?

Regency period armchairs....oh my goodness, they would look fab at each end of my dining room table...

Safari Bergere.....I am especially drawn to Bergere's and adore this zebra!
How about these?

This round iron chair could use a lumbar pillow with lots of fringe and tassles...it or a pair would be cute in a keeping room.
I love love these LouixXVI style white painted Fauteuils...a bit of whimsey and fun.

These Fauteuils are more traditional....nice all the same.

This Fauteuil is made from antlers....

English ladder back corner chair...my Mother has one of these, I may need to tuck in my suitcase next time I go for a visit!

Not very often do you see a leather Bergere....could suit the man of the house!

This upholstered lounge chair is definitely funky, I sat in one the other day, quite comfy actually!

This hand carved high back chair would be perfect for the project I am working on in northern Virginia! Love it.
These French art deco mahogany leaf back boudoir chairs are the best....very unusual....now just where could I put them?

Now you must go over to Fifi Flowers Design Decor and vote on the chairs she is showcasing to paint for her collection of chairs. She is a fabulous artist and I have some of her paintings in my house!
